With times changing and technology becoming more advanced, it has become more common to be found in the classroom. Technology has made meetings and and meeting other teachers easier. There are different technology platforms that can be beneficial and effective for both the students and teachers such as: blogs, twitter, canvas, etc. Having these technology platforms is useful because students can have conversations and reply to their peers' work, teachers can post their notes and presentations so students can reference back to them, teachers can assign work that requires technology like powerpoint or making a video, etc. Teachers have to learn to change with the times and then teach their students how to do the same as well in order for them to remain successful in their classroom.
The standard that is the most meaningful to me is the leader standard. This standard entails that educators are in charge of finding leadership opportunities that will help benefit students become more successful in their learning and teaching. This standard is important because along with finding opportunities for students, educators also advocate for their to be equal opportunity between all diversities of students which is very important as all students differ in their learning styles and other ways as well. A leader also serves as a role model to students which is important for them to have someone to look up too and go too if they have any trouble when it comes to technology.
I do not agree with the label "digital native" for today's youth because I don't think it's fair to label people based on when they were born and the advancement of technology at the time they were born. A "digital native" is someone who was born when technology was already around and someone who is a "native" speaker to technology. I have seen differences on how myself and my teachers use technology because I grew up with it being normal to have technology around a lot and most of my teachers did not grow up with a lot of technology or for it to be as normalized. All in all, depending on my teacher, they use technology the same way I would in the classroom. They may not go on their phone as much as I do or use the same social media but I believe that they have a good understanding of how to use technology considering that they had to learn how to adapt to it. I anticipate that when teaching my future students that I will have to learn and advance with technology just as my teachers right now did. No one knows how to just use technology without learning and I don't really think it matters too much of when you were born because you just need to learn how to use it and that's all that really matters.

I have mixed opinions about the term "digital natives." I feels as though people need everything to be labeled these days, but i feel that over time the term will fade. In the age we live in now, moving forward, everyone is born with technology present in their lives. I agree with what you said about everyone being able to learn how to use technology.
ReplyDeleteI like your ideas about this topic! I agree with what you said about your teachers probably using technology the same way you did except for grabbing your phone and being on the same social media. It is also a good point to bring up that the teachers have adapted to it - we grew up with it, but they have adapted it and taken it on as well to connect with their students better.
