I did not start using Twitter until I was a freshman in high school because my mom didn't want me to have one. I have had a personal account ever since then so for about 6 years. I have never really been active posting on Twitter but I do enjoy scrolling through and looking at stuff because you can follow a variety of different people and use it for different stuff. I have found it beneficial because you can keep up with things that are going on around the world like news and other current events. Twitter might be helpful in my future career because I want to be a teacher and I could use it in my classroom similar to how we are using it in this class.
The digital divide affects access student success in schools because depending on student's ability to access technology, they may not be able to complete assignments given by the teacher. If students come from low income families where they would not be able to afford internet access or a computer, then they wouldn't be able to be successful. As well as this, some teachers just assume that everyone has television at their house, but some don't and can't watch whatever they were assigned. Depending on how old the students are, they also won't be able to drive somewhere like a friend's house or library to have internet access. Some causes of the digital divide are geographical or social. This may affect my teaching strategies because I will have to keep in mind what my student's ability to access technology. I think at the beginning of the year I would ask my children or their parents if they have access to internet so that I will know before assigning things who will be able to complete them or not. For whatever student's who don't have any access to technology, I will provide accommodations for them and allow them to complete it at school where they do have access or assign the assignment in a different form that they would still be able to complete the assignment.
Khan Academy and Quizlet are two software tools that I would implement in my future classroom. Khan Academy is a website in which search for lessons and they provide in detail videos on how to complete the concepts. I have used this website a lot to learn math lessons and it has been very helpful. Quizlet is a great online tool that students can use in order to study. It allows you to create your own study sets and the you are done with those, you can study them using flashcards, generated tests, writing out the definitions, using the learn tool which will have you answer questions on the terms. All of these are very useful now that technology is prevalent in schools and there are multiple tools within the website students can utilize depending on which way they study the best.
